On Jan. 6, 2018, to maintain and improve the island’s ecological environment, CNMI Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality (BECQ) hosted a trash-picking event on San Antonio Beach in Saipan, which was aimed at calling on people to protect our homeland and the environment.

Some local volunteers and Christians of The Church of Almighty God have attended the event. They arrived at the beach at 8 a.m. on the dot, wore the gloves distributed by BECQ staff and began to clean up the beach with garbage bags. They collected and sorted the aluminum cans, plastic bottles and cigarette butts with hands or grippers. All the trash has been carried off in pickup trucks.

A Christian of The Church of Almighty God said, it’s everyone’s duty to protect the environment. They will get into such activities, with the hope to do something for the protection of the natural environment in Saipan. What’s more, they offered to take charge of cleaning a free public beach—Garapan Fishing Base, and promised to clean the beach at least four times every year.

The staff admired their serious attitude toward work and thanked them for their efforts in this activity.

Dedicated to protecting the environment, BECQ organized a bunch of citizens to join in environmental movements, making a practical contribution to Saipan’s natural environment.
