Matthew 6:5- It Is Fit for God's Will to Do Things Before God

And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

- Matthew 6:5

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

In this verse, God demanded us to do things before Him but not before men. Whenever we do anything, regardless of whether it is a big thing or a small thing, we shouldn’t pursue the honor of others but care about whether we can satisfy God’s will. This causes me to think of the hypocritical Pharisees, they pretended to be very reverent in front of others, and make long prayer but devoured widows’ houses, and murdered the prophets. They purposely prayed in the synagogue and on the street corners. When they fasted, they’d purposely have a sad expression on their faces. They wrote scriptures on the tassels of their garments. When they donated to charity, they made sure that other people saw them do it. All what they did were to establish their own images for people to worship, but not satisfy and submit to God, this is not approved by God and even be condemned by Him. Thus we should be cautious and do things before God that are fit for His will.
