1 Samuel 17:32 - Rely on God and You Won’t Be Afraid

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Goliath, the Philistine, was very tall. The armor of bronze he wore and the weapon he held were not something that an ordinary person could have the ability to take. Every Israelite soldier was scared of him. Saul and the Israelites were frightened when they heard that Goliath wanted to go mano a mano with them. They had no confidence to defeat him.

“Let no man’s heart fail because of him,” David said to Saul with great assurance while all the Israelites feared and didn’t know what to do about it. It is recorded in the Bible that David was too short to put on Saul’s armor, and he never had been a fighting man from his youth. Where did his faith come from? The exchange between David and Goliath has given us the answer: “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

In real life, we will cower when facing unknown future or unfamiliar surroundings, or sometimes when we can’t handle something difficult, or when we get along with others, or when death draws near.

With God to lean on, David faced the difficulties head-on because God is the source of wisdom and power. David’s story has strengthened our faith. God is the very present help of us as long as we rely on Him.
