Psalm 42:5 - Depend on God in All Sorts of Worries

Why are you cast down, O my soul? and why are you disquieted in me? hope you in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

- Psalm 42:5

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

“Hope you in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” The verse tells us that when we encounter anxieties in our lives, the greatest wisdom is to rely on God. The Lord Jesus said, “Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest(Matthew 11:28). As long as we rely on God, no matter how difficult the matter we encounter, we’ll solve it. Many people know Daniel’s story. The king Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that needed to be interpreted. When the wise men who served him failed to show the interpretation, he was very furious and wanted to kill all the wise men. All the people were worried about this. Daniel said to the king Nebuchadnezzar that he could interpret his dream. As Daniel prayed to and relied on God, God told him what the dream of the king Nebuchadnezzar was and what it represented. Finally all the wise men escaped the calamity of being killed. The story gives us a hint that God seeks to resolve our problems and settle our concerns and that relying on God, we don’t need to be anxious.

A few days ago, I read an article, “Hard to Find a Job? Don’t Worry, You Can Rely on God.” In an interview, the protagonist of the article was very nervous and anxious that she couldn’t pass. When she truly prayed to God, she found the way of practice and dropped the burden in her heart. After she passed the interviews by relying on God and got the work, she tasted God’s faithfulness and had some true knowledge of God’s sovereignty. Therefore, we should not be worried about our lives. Rely on God and we’ll become more brave and confident. Friends, what are you still anxious about?
