Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which you have, that no man take your crown.
– Revelation 3:11
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
In this verse, God exhorts and warns us: Whencomes again, the wicked servants and false shepherds in the church will deceive and obstruct us to follow the footsteps of God. If we have no discernment of them, we will be deceived and controlled by them. If we blindly believe their words and dare not seek, investigate, or hear the voice of Jesus , we will lose God’s promise and blessings to us. In the Age of Grace, when Jesus Christ came to do the redemptive work, He was resisted, condemned, and forsaken by the Jewish chief priests, scribes, and the Pharisees. In order to protect their position and livelihood, they fabricated rumors and slandered Him, and did all they could to block Jewish people from following Him. They were obstacles deceiving and controlling people to return to God. However, those Jewish people did not have discernment. They paid no heed to listening to the words of Jesus Christ but believed rumors and falsehood of the Pharisees. So, they lost His salvation and were eliminated by God. For this reason, here Jesus Christ exhorts and warns us that when He comes again, we should hold to His way, seek His voice with a God-fearing heart, and learn to recognize His voice. We should not blindly follow man’s words, especially the words of those who have status and power. We should discern whether or not their words stem from God, whether or not their words are on the basis of the words of Jesus Christ. If they do not come from God and are without basis of His words, we should refuse and cannot believe them, for fear that the crowns God bestows upon us be taken away by these people.
