One afternoon I came across a colleague on the street. After a small talk, she asked me suddenly, “I heard you have believed in God, haven’t you?” Before I answered her, she continued saying, “My aunt also believes in God. And she preached the gospel to me, but I don’t believe it. There is no God!” I asked her, “Are you an atheist?” She agreed with a nod and asked me, “You are so young. How can you believe there is a God in the world? Have you seen God?” I said, “None of us can live without air but no one sees it. Can you say there is no air? When a breeze blows, we feel cool, but what color and shape is the wind? Can we see it? Similarly, can we say there is no God because He is invisible? The operations of the universe and the stars, the alternations of four seasons and the law of the interchange of night and day, can man arrange them? How dare you jump to the conclusion that God doesn’t exist?” She was speechless after hearing it and then changed the topic.
On the way home, I couldn’t help thinking of a story:
Once upon a time, there was a well-known doctor who was an atheist. Once, after the doctor ended the public speech, an old countrywoman walked onto the stage with a basket of oranges. She said to the doctor, “I have just passed by after buying some oranges from the market, and I heard you say in your speech that there is no God. Then I want to check with you about it. Doctor, are the oranges I bought sour or sweet? If sour, to what extent? If sweet, how sweet are they?” As she said it, she took an orange from the basket. The doctor said, “I haven’t eaten them, how can I affirm it?” The old woman peeled an orange and ate several slices, saying, “I’ve eaten it and it is sweet. Though I can’t describe the taste to you, I know how sweet it is! I’ve experienced God’s guidance and I often use my heart to communicate with Him. I won’t argue with you, but I know there is a God. You haven’t experienced God’s guidance just as you haven’t tasted the orange. How are you qualified to say there is no God?” The doctor was dumbfounded by the question.
As I walked, I thought about my colleague’s attitude toward belief in God and what the old woman said to the doctor in the story. I was wondering: God’s deeds are everywhere; why don’t people believe in and admit His existence?
Many people say there is no God, and they only believe this Satan’s venom that “one’s fate is in one’s own hands.” They always want to rely on their own hands to create wonderful futures, so that they feel very tired and miserable. Someone deceives himself and dare not admit that there is God, because he has broken laws and committed crimes and he fears retributions. Someone researches and denies the existence of God from the perspective of the politician, educationist or scientist by his knowledge and logic, so he was never able to discover God’s deeds.
And then, what about the conditions of the Christians who believe in the ? Though people , who really knows God and His work? For example, in today’s religious world, many believers are awaiting the Lord Jesus’ return and they hold on to their own conceptions and imaginations. They think, “The Lord Jesus left on a white cloud and shall arrive with tens of thousands of saints riding upon a white cloud. We haven’t seen this magnificent scene, so we don’t believe the Lord has come back no matter who preach the gospel.” “We work hard for God all the time and are watching and waiting for the Lord’s return. The Lord should reveal it to us first, so we won’t believe it without Lord’s revelation.” “The Lord has prepared the place for us in heavenly home, and He will take us to enter the kingdom of heaven directly when He comes again. Since the Lord has come back, why aren’t we lifted into the air by the Lord?” These people hold different conceptions, but what is in common is that they are definite about their preconceived conceptions and imaginations about the return of the Lord, thus they don’t give considerations to that man can’t define God’s work but should make a conclusion after seeking and studying. So to speak, the self-righteous attitude of those who believe in God nominally toward God’s work differs little from those atheists’.
Retrospectively, the Pharisees maintained their own conceptions and imaginations to define the work of God. They thought that when Messiah arrived He should be born in the royal palace, and that He should be stylish, majestic, imposing and that He should assume power. However, in fact the one who came was not called Messiah but Jesus who was born in a manger and grew up in a carpenter’s family in Nazareth. None of these facts was what the Pharisees had thought and explained. The work of God is really this wonderful and unfathomable! Although the Pharisees who worshiped Jehovah each and every generation were very familiar with the Old Testament, they stuck to their own opinions and maintained their own conceptions and imaginations. They not only didn’t study the work and words of the Lord Jesus, but rejected and condemned Him, and ultimately nailed the Lord Jesus to the cross. They committed a heinous crime and were subjected to unprecedented destruction. While people like shepherds and fishermen who were willing to submit to and follow God on hearing the voice of God finally gained the salvation of the Lord Jesus. It turns out that God doesn’t work on the basis of people’s conceptions and imaginations. Only those who seek the new work of God with humility and focus on listening to the voice of God can see the appearance of God and follow the footsteps of God.
The Lord Jesus once said to Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed: Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed” (John 20:29). It is said in that “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him” (Psalms 34:8). “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has showed it to them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:19-20). From these scriptures we can know that if people can treat belief in God with faith and humility, they can surely see God’s deeds and gain His guidance and blessings. Whether you are the unbelievers or the believers of the religions, if you want to keep pace with the footsteps of God and gain God’s salvation, only by seeking the truth with humility in God’s new words can you truly see that God has indeed come among man again to do the work of judgment and purification in the last days. Or else, man can never gain God’s salvation if he recognizes the appearance of God and accepts the work of God only depending on eyes and inferences. is exactly the return of the Lord Jesus and the only true God who controls our fates. Almighty God says, “He who is God’s incarnation shall hold the substance of God, and He who is God’s incarnation shall hold the expression of God. Since God becomes flesh, He shall bring forth the work He must do, and since God becomes flesh, He shall express what He is, and shall be able to bring the truth to man, bestow life upon man, and show man the way” (“Preface”). “I advise you to tread the path of belief in God with care. Do not jump to conclusions; what’s more, do not be casual and carefree in your belief in God. You should know that, at the very least, those who believe in God should be humble and reverential. Those who have heard the truth and yet turn their nose up at it are foolish and ignorant. Those who have heard the truth and yet carelessly jump to conclusions or condemn it are beset by arrogance. No one who believes in Jesus is qualified to curse or condemn others. You should all be someone who is rational and accepts the truth. Perhaps, having heard the way of truth and read the word of life, you believe that only one in 10,000 of these words are in line with your convictions and the Bible, and then you should continue to seek in that 10,000th of these words. I still advise you to be humble, to not be over-confident, and to not exalt yourself too highly. With your heart holding such meager reverence for God, you will gain greater light. If you carefully examine and repeatedly contemplate these words, you shall understand whether or not they are the truth, and whether or not they are life. … If you cannot accept such truth spoken so plainly and so clearly, then are you not unfit for God’s salvation? Are you not someone who is not fortunate enough to return before the throne of God? Think about it! Do not be rash and impetuous, and do not treat belief in God as a game. Think for the sake of your destination, for the sake of your prospects, for the sake of your life, and do not play around with yourself. Can you accept these words?” (“When You Behold the Spiritual Body of Jesus Will Be When God Has Made Anew Heaven and Earth”).
