Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God.
– 1 John 4:7
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
This verse teaches us to love one another. When we don’t know how to love our families or friends, we can pray to God because love comes from Him and only He can give us a loving heart. It brings back my memory of a film, which is a story of a firefighter who doesn’t know how to love people or care for his family but saves his marriage by relying on God. When he is about to divorce, his father asks him to follow the Lord’s requirements in forty days: every day do one thing for his family and make his decision after that forty days. When he is halfway done, he feels hard to continue following the Lord’s teachings, so he sincerely prays to God and asks Him to bestow upon him a loving heart to love others. The film ends with that his change moves his wife and they start their marriage under the witness of a priest. What touches me most in this film is the scene that the firefighter doesn’t know how to love others, so he comes before God to pray and asks Him to teach him how to love others. Love is born of God. Therecords a man named Zacchaeus, who loved money most. When he saw the Lord was merciful and he personally gained the Lord’s compassion, he repented. Not only did he fourfold restore the money taken by fraud to the owners, he also provided relief to the poor with half of his possessions. Zacchaeus’ such change was achieved with the help of God’s love. God is love. Only God can help us love one another.
I’d like to share some of God’s words, “This is because God is forever making sacrifices and devoting Himself to mankind; man, however, forever takes and strives only for himself. God is forever taking pains for mankind’s survival, yet man never contributes anything for the sake of the light or for righteousness. Even if man makes an effort for a time, it is so weak that it cannot withstand a single blow, for the effort of man is always for his own sake and not for others. Man is always selfish, while God is forever selfless.”
