Bible Study: “Trinity of God” Is No Longer A Mystery

By Shangyang

When I started to believe in the Lord, I heard the brothers and sisters in the Lord called God as Triune God, namely, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I thought: God, who created the heavens and earth and all things is the only true God. Since there is only one God, but why is God called Trinity? I was much confused. Once, I asked my older sister, a co-worker of the church, about the real meaning of the “Trinity.” She said that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit was the Triune and unique true God. Then I asked her doubtfully, “Who is the Father? Who is the Son? And what about the Holy Spirit?” She replied, “The Father is Jehovah God, the Son is Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit is God’s Spirit.” After hearing her explanations of the Trinity, I seemed to understand something. This was how it was.

One day, I read these verses, “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, see, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting on him: And see a voice from heaven, saying,”>This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased (Matthew 3:16-17). “Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19). “And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39). As these verses all referred to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I was more convinced that God was Triune God. For so many years I have always held on and deeply believed in this viewpoint like other brothers and sisters.

Does the Trinity Exist?

Afterward, by chance I read a piece of word, “Does the Trinity Exist?”My old conception was countered suddenly. It says,“My old conception was countered suddenly. It says, “Throughout many centuries, man has believed in this Trinity, conjured up by notions in the mind of man, fabricated by man, and never before seen by man. Throughout these many years, there have been many spiritual greats who have explained the ‘true meaning’ of the Trinity, but such explanations of the Trinity as three distinct consubstantial persons have been vague and unclear, and all are befuddled by the ‘construct’ of God. No great man has ever been able to offer a thorough explanation; most explanations pass muster in terms of reasoning and on paper, but not a single man has a fully clear understanding of its meaning. This is because this great Trinity man holds in the heart simply does not exist. … Throughout these many years, God has been split by you in this way, being split finer and finer with each generation, to the extent that one God has been openly split into three Gods. And now it is simply impossible for man to rejoin God as one, for you have split Him up too finely! … This is your artifice! Your means of splitting God! Will you continue to do so now? Let Me ask you: How many Gods are there? Which God will bring you salvation? Is it the first God, the second, or the third that you always pray to? Which of Them do you always believe in? Is it the Father? Or the Son? Or is it the Spirit? Tell Me who it is that you believe in. Though with every word you say you believe in God, what you actually believe is your own brain! You simply do not have God in your heart! And yet in your minds are a number of such ‘Trinities’! … What is the Holy Father? What is the Son? What is the Holy Spirit? Is Jehovah the Holy Father? Is Jesus the Son? Then what of the Holy Spirit? Is not the Father a Spirit? Is not the substance of the Son also a Spirit? Was not the work of Jesus the work of the Holy Spirit? Was not the work of Jehovah at the time carried out by a Spirit the same as Jesus’? How many Spirits can God have? According to your explanation, the three persons of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one; if so, there are three Spirits, but to have three Spirits means there are three Gods. This means that there is no one true God; how can this kind of God still have the inherent substance of God? If you accept that there is only one God, then how can He have a son and be a father? Are these not all simply your notions?

God is only one Spirit, and only one person; and that is the Spirit of God. If it is as you say, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, then are They not three Gods? The Holy Spirit is one matter, the Son another, and the Father yet another. They are distinct persons of different substances, so how then can They each be part of a single God? The Holy Spirit is a Spirit; this is easy for man to understand. If so, then the Father is even more so a Spirit. He has never descended onto earth and has never become flesh; He is Jehovah God in the heart of man, and He is certainly a Spirit as well. Then what is the relationship between Him and the Holy Spirit? Is it the relationship between Father and Son? Or is it the relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of the Father? Is the substance of each Spirit the same? Or is the Holy Spirit an instrument of the Father? How can this be explained? And then what is the relationship between the Son and the Holy Spirit? Is it a relationship between two Spirits or the relationship between a man and a Spirit? These are all matters that can have no explanation! If They are all one Spirit, then there can be no talk of three persons, for They are possessed of a single Spirit. If They were distinct persons, then Their Spirits would vary in strength, and simply They could not be one single Spirit. This concept of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is most absurd!” Seeing these words, I suddenly saw the light: It turns out that the Trinity was conjured up by notions in the mind of man according to the literal meaning and came from man’s logic. Think back to Genesis 1:1-2 says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved on the face of the waters.” Here, it only says God’s Spirit moved on the face of water but not the Spirit of the Trinity. And Moses once saw the back of Jehovah and heard the words of Jehovah. He had dialogues with Jehovah for many times in his life, but he never told the Israelites that Jehovah God was the “Trinity.” Isaiah 43:11 says, “I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior.” And in Mark 12:29, the Lord Jesus says, “The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord.” From these verses, we can see clearly that Jehovah told the Israelites personally that He was the unique true God and there was no other true God except Him and there was no God behind Him either. In the entire Age of Law, man knew that God was the unique true God and there was no other true God other than Him. There was no such idea of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit at all. Besides, when the Lord Jesus worked in the Age of Grace, He also especially emphasized, “The Lord our God is one Lord.” In addition, when creating the world, what God said was God’s Spirit but not the Holy Father and Son. Obviously, there is no idea of the Trinity with God at all.

So, How Did the Idea of the Trinity of God Come About?

With this question, I continued reading these words in the book, “Prior to His crucifixion, Jesus was a Son of man bound by the limitations of the flesh, and He did not fully possess the authority of the Spirit. That is why He could only seek the will of God the Father from the perspective of a created being. It is as He thrice prayed in Gethsemane: ‘Not as I will, but as you will.’ Before He was laid on the cross, He was but the King of the Jews; He was Christ, the Son of man, and not a body of glory. That is why, from the standpoint of a created being, He called God Father. Now, you cannot say that all who call God Father are the Son. If this were so, then would you not have all become the Son once Jesus taught you the Lord’s Prayer? If you are still not convinced, then tell Me, who is the one that you call Father? If you are referring to Jesus, then who is the Father of Jesus to you? After Jesus went away, this idea of the Father and the Son was no longer. This idea was only appropriate for the years when Jesus became flesh; under all other circumstances, the relationship is one between the Lord of creation and a created being when you call God Father. There is no time at which this idea of the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit can stand; it is a fallacy rarely seen through the ages and does not exist!” Seeing when the incarnate Lord Jesus prayed to God’s Spirit from the perspective of the flesh, He called God in heaven by the name of Father. It turns out that only when Jesus became flesh and worked on earth, was there the idea of the Father and Son. The Trinity of God then came about. After that, such idea passed down to today. Now I understand that the Trinity did not exist in the beginning but was inferred by man in the Age of Grace according to the saying of the Father and Son and the record of other verses, which was not after God’s heart, for God never said this and the Holy Spirit didn’t testify to it either. Therefore, the Trinity we believe in does not exist, much less does it correspond to facts.

Thank God! I finally understand that there is only one God in heaven and on earth. God is only one Spirit and one person. Jehovah, the Father, is the Spirit of God. Jesus, the Son, is the Spirit of Jehovah incarnate and He is also the Spirit of God in His substance, not to mention the Holy Spirit. They are one Spirit in substance. There is only one God and God’s Spirit is only one person. God is the only Master in heaven and on earth and the unique true God, which is the unchanging fact. The Father and Son are not two persons but rather God called Himself from different perspectives. The Father is a Spirit in substance, so is the Son. They are exactly one Spirit and one God. From that we can see, from the beginning to the end the Trinity does not exist at all. There doesn’t exist that God has three persons and is Trinity in the work God has done and the Bible. Just as in John 14:8-11, Philip said to the Lord, “‘Lord, show us the Father, and it suffises us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how say you then, Show us the Father? Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak to you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.’” “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30). From these verses, we can see that Philip had no knowledge of the Lord Jesus’ divine substance, regarding Jesus and God in heaven as two persons and thinking that Jesus had Father God in heaven. So, he said to the Lord, “Show us the Father.” Yet the Lord Jesus corrected his mistaken knowledge, saying, “I am in the Father, and the Father in me,”“I and my Father are one,” and “he that has seen me has seen the Father.” The Lord Jesus is a flesh that the Spirit of God wears and Christ living among the people, true and real. That is to say, the Lord Jesus in the flesh is the Son of man and Father God. He and the Father are one. They are one Spirit in substance and inseparable. Through these facts, we can see that God is the unique God Himself. There does not exist three persons and the idea of the Trinity of God. These are all processed and imagined by our brains, and untenable, which is purely blasphemy against God.

This piece of word “Does the Trinity Exist?” has revealed the mystery of the Trinity, allowing me to understand that there doesn’t exist the Trinity at all. The God we believe in is a God in our conception and imaginations. Such belief will not be approved by God even though we believe in Him for our whole life. Rather, we will be eliminated by God because of our notions and conceptions. Thank God for correcting my mistaken viewpoints of believing in Him which I have had for many years, making me have right knowledge of Him.
